Dear South Huntington Families,

I hope this message finds you well. Recent changes in federal policy regarding immigration may have raised concerns for some families within our South Huntington community. I want to take this opportunity to reaffirm our district’s commitment to supporting every student, regardless of their background, and ensuring our schools remain safe and welcoming spaces for all.

In South Huntington, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive in an environment where they feel protected. Our schools have longstanding practices that align with both state and federal laws to safeguard the rights of all students.

We understand that some families may be worried about immigration enforcement activities within our community. Please be assured that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is required to follow specific legal criteria while on school property. Our district will always prioritize the safety and well-being of our students and families.

If you or your family need guidance or support, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s school or district administration. Our dedicated staff is here to listen, help and ensure your child has the tools they need to succeed. Please see the attached document from NYS Governor Kathy Hochul regarding immigrant rights outlining key information that you may find valuable and informative.

We want to thank our South Huntington community for continuing to work with us to create a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for all.

Respectfully,

Vito M. D’Elia Ed.D., Superintendent
